Ballet du Capitole de Toulouse
Artistic direction: Kader Belarbi
For over two centuries, the Ballet du Capitole has been dedicated to the lyric arts: it dances the operatic dance at the Théâtre du Capitole. It wasn’t until 1949 that there would be evenings dedicated solely to dance, at the initiative of Louis Orlandi, Ballet Master and choreographer. The Ballet du Capitole had finally become a ballet company in the fullest sense of the term. It then enjoyed great success with its successive dance directors.
In August 2012, Kader Belarbi, star dancer and choreographer, was offered the direction of dance at the Théâtre du Capitole. A new page was then turned for the Ballet du Capitole. Its new director and creator was attached to the tradition of the great classical and neo-classical repertoire, but still opened the Ballet to the diversity of aesthetics and gave contemporary creation a central role.
Kader Belarbi’s artistic project and ambition are to give the Ballet du Capitole a broad classical repertoire and to open the company up by diversifying its repertoires, as well as by encouraging the expansion of its audience, developing a regional presence and expanding internationally.
Tradition and modernity are at the heart of the Ballet du Capitole. With 35 dancers from 14 different countries, it offers, season to season, dynamic ballet in harmony with its time, open to all.
