Jaï Production
Collections
Founded in 2019 by Anne Décoret-Ahiha, a dance anthropologist, author and consultant based in Lyon (France) and Cotonou (Benin), Jaï Production’s initial aim is to support the production and distribution of choreographic artists living and working on the African continent, particularly in Benin and Togo.
In 2021, Jaï Production produced Chaos Elégant (lien vidéo), by Beninese choreographer Arouna Guindo (co-production Institut Français du Bénin, support: Le Centre Lobozounka – Cotonou), which was performed in Cotonou, Ouidah and Parakou from 2021 to 2023.
Jaï Production also produces digital content on choreographic creation in Africa. We collect and produce footage of shows created and performed on the African continent; we produce documentary capsules and interviews with artists, we enhance video archives of structures and venues, and we host, in extracts or in their entirety, documentaries on contemporary dance in Africa.
The aim is to help document African choreographic creation, both in terms of its history and its current situation, and to highlight the dancers and choreographers who are developing their activities in Africa.
We have a regular presence in Benin and Togo, at festivals, events and cultural venues, and our ambition is to extend the scope of our performance footage collection to the whole of Africa, and to become a relay for artists, companies, festivals and venues in Africa, documenting and promoting their creations and performances.
