Dance is one of those artistic movements that involve the spectator as an actor. And vice versa.
Nourished and inspired by the energy and open-mindedness that characterise us, we are now proposing a protean and innovative artistic and cultural programme, conceived as a space for sharing and encounters, serving artists, creators, practitioners and artistic practices that bring all audiences together. For the purposes of this project, we see this house as a daring place where artistic creation and high standards are anchored in the region by its public base.
A place for art, culture, life and conviviality, in tune with the times and its environment. A place that is open to new forms of circulation, touring and sharing, bringing together artists, works of art and local residents. It’s a pioneering, innovative venue in terms of how it’s done and how it’s used, reflecting the world of tomorrow, in direct touch with reality, making Brittany an international sounding board for the vitality and creativity of dance.

This structure has existed since 1978. Prior to being named Choreographic Center in 1982, the institution was known as the Choreographic Theatre of Rennes and Brittany (Théâtre chorégraphique de Rennes et de Bretagne, TCRB). It was headed by Gigi Caciuleanu until 1993 and by Catherine Diverrès and Bernardo Montet until 1996. Catherine Diverrès was the sole director until 2008. Boris Charmatz took the reins in January 2009 and directed the newly renamed Musée de la Danse until December 2018. Since January 2019, the collective FAIR-E, composed of Bouside Ait Atmane, Iffra Dia, Johanna Faye, Céline Gallet, Linda Hayford, Saïdo Lehlouh, Marion Poupinet, and Ousmane Sy, has been managing the center for choreography which has now become the CCNRB.
