Mary Anne Santos Newhall

Mary Anne Santos Newhall is a teacher in the Department of theatrical and choreographic studies of New Mexico University, USA. Holder of a PhD in history, she likes to describe herself as a “historian who dances”. Her research is dedicated to the works and practices of choreographic Modernism in the first half of the 20th century. A soloist dancer, she is also involved in the Martha Graham Dance Company and the American Repertory Dance Theatre. Specialising in the work of the dancer, choreographer and pedagogue, Hanya Holm, she has also worked to revive the various works of Martha Graham. She is an associate artist of the American Dance Legacy Initiative.
