Philippe Beau is a shadow magician, one of the few professional artists specializing in the rare and poetic discipline of creating shadow games using only his hands. This ancestral art is called ombromania.
His various shows can be compared to choreographed ballets of hands, where the shadows of characters and animals follow one another fluidly, in an unprecedented morphing process, with no special effects other than the virtuosity of intertwining fingers.
All the capacities of his hands are used to the extreme to create ephemeral shadows of an originality and beauty reputed to be unique in the world.
Shadow performer and artistic adviser, he is an internationally recognized shadow specialist. He has presented his shows in more than thirty countries.
He also imagined and created new artistic forms around shadows for all the universes related to the show.
He has performed for major international events and prestigious luxury houses, in Paris (Cartier, Chaumet), in Dubai (Hermès), in Quebec (FISM/world magic congress).
Famous venues and international companies have hosted him on their stages, such as the mythical Parisian cabaret Crazy Horse, the Cirque du Soleil (He imagined and created tailor-made shadow games in the Kà shows in Las Vegas and Vizion of Jeddah), the Friedrichstadt-Palast, a historic cabaret in Berlin where he designed paintings for the review “Arise Grand Show”, but also the auditorium of the Louvre, in duo with renowned classical instrumentalists, or the Olympia, in the first part of the one man show of the famous French actor and humorist François Morel.
In addition to creating his own shows, Philippe Beau regularly collaborates with opera and theater directors, such as Robert Lepage and Peter Brook, as well as choreographers, notably Philippe Decouflé. He has also worked with filmmakers such as Frederic Wiseman or Alain Chabat, musicians such as Chilly Gonzales or the Monte Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra.
