The group

Made up of around 15 young dancers, this troupe was formed in 2014 at the Nantes conservatory. Open to all students from 15 years and up, the GCC is a group of dancers who are passionate about creating together, supervised by dance teacher Vanessa Morisson. It is focused on contemporary dance with two exploratory workshops per week on-site at the conservatory. Along with training in technique, the students also hone their skills by participating in performances created by Vanessa Morison. This is the first time the group has participated in the Amateur Dance and Repertoire programme. They have chosen a piece by choreographers Christian and François Ben Aïm.

The project

La Légèreté des tempêtes, was created in 2014 by the brothers Ben Aïm for 8 performers including three live musicians and a singer. Driven by the question of desire, a theme which resonates with the young dancers of the GCC, the two choreographers created a piece that brings the intimate echos of our inner lives to the stage. Dynamic and organic, the choreography of the Ben Aïm brothers requires a kind of bounding energy that draws on the dancers innermost resources. The work’s raw lyricism, tied together by a clear vision won over the group. Florence Casanave helped create this reconstruction, passing on her final solo, expanded by an introduction and a collective movement. As the title indicates, the themes of calm and storm, agitation and serenity are at the heart of this piece and its reconstruction.
