For the exhibition “Dansons Maintenant! » (April – June 2011) on Antoine Tempé’ dance photographies, Fondation Zinsou who was the organizer, ordered benin choreographer Marcel Gbeffa to create a performance in resonance with the photographer’s images that were hung in outside on containers.
Statement of intent :
“Here the opinion of others does not matter.
In this sphere, only our desires are masters.
Our desires catch up with us.
We know how our madness begins but we still ignore their infinity.
A madness that takes over, especially when those around us also indulge in it, without restraint.
A desire that has been repressed deep within us. Not satisfied. Which leads us to madness. Frustrations come to light here, unexpectedly, and make us lose all credibility!
Our rejected actions, buried in us, suddenly resurface. Buried because prisoners of our principles, of the choice of society, of a conscience that is now freeing itself. It’s the explosion.
We can’t repress everything…
Performed outdoor on Saturday May 28, 2011, Champ de Foire, Cotonou.
Filmed by Stéphane Agbessi-Loko.
