Deux-mille-dix-sept
A fervent republican, Maguy Marin is an unparallelled choreographer and director. Her most recent pieces mirror our world with lucidity and pugnacity. Settled in the lyonnaise region, at Ramdam, an art centre she shares with other artists, she captures existing society as if it were a caricature. In this show by a multiplicity of authors, she once again engages in a new venture. She explains: “In 1928, Edward Bernays, the american nephew of Sigmund Freud, wrote a book entitled Propaganda, a small manual which cynically and frankly presents the great principles of mass psychological manipulation (…) In 2017, men and women who do not adapt to the parameters of competition and efficiency are guaranteed to become obsolete.”
To a supposedly civic, young, fair, kind, and open-minded world, she proposes a dance which draws its power from a vital impetus which doesn’t ignore the contortions of “showbiz society”. This is a dance which brings together ten performers, a mixture of company regulars and new arrivals.
