Reflections is a commission by Van Cleef & Arpels, shown in a world premiere at the Théâtre du Châtelet, the first part of a trilogy entitled Gems. The Jewellery House revives the excitement generated in 1967 during the premiere of George Balanchine’s ballet Jewels as a tribute to the brand’s jewels by combining its initials with those of the dancer and choreographer Benjamin Millepied. The design of the stage sets and costumes was entrusted to the American artist Barbara Kruger. David Lang’s minimalist music, a selection of scores for piano only, interpreted by Andrew Zolinsky (Cantaloupe Records) out of This was written by hand / memory pieces, was produced by Benjamin Millepied and Barbara Kruger during a creative residency in Los Angeles.
