Eva María Garrido, known as Eva Yerbabuena, was born in Frankfurt in 1970. She trained in Granada with teachers such as Enrique ‘El Canastero’ and Angustias ‘La Mona’. She studied Dramatic Art in Seville and moved to Havana to learn choreography under Johannes García. In 1985 she joined the Rafael Aguilar company, and in the early 1990s worked with several top-ranking artists. In 1998 she performed in the City Center in New York as invited artist from the National Spanish Ballet and later created her own company. She presented her first production, entitled ‘Eva’, at the 10th Flamenco Biennial in Seville. That same year she performed with Mikhail Baryshnikov in a production by Pina Baush. She has danced in all the world’s top venues.
In 2001 she received the National Dance Award and the Max Performing Arts Award, Best female dancer in 2014.
