Les Disparates, le film
Filmed in Dieppe, this short film is not more than a document of the work of choreography: it sheds new light on the choreographic process developed in the stage version.
This video by the film maker César Vayssié is based on a stage solo performance under the same title, created by Boris Charmatz and Dimitri Chamblas. On stage, the body of the dancer comes to share the space with a sculpture by the visual artist Tony Grand. The performance takes place in a black box theater, which is to say that it uses the traditional configuration of live performance. Using elements of this solo performance, César Vayssié creates a new, cinematographic work. Filmed in Dieppe, this short film is not more than a document of the work of choreography: it sheds new light on the choreographic process developed in the stage version. The dance incorporates the reality and some narrative codes in a sound film without words. The camera angles chosen by César Vayssié, as well as his choreographic writing, take the imagination and the reception of this dance into new spheres where layers of meaning multiply.
It is important to note that, as with any work of cinema, the conditions in which the object is viewed are essential to the appreciation of the work. Although the whole version the whole version is shown here, it is in small format, and should be viewed for research purposes only.
