Au travail avec Farid Berki ! L’oiseau de feu en mode Hip-Hop
In the spring of 2025, the filmmaker Jean-Pierre Thorn decided to pay tribute to his friend, dancer and choreographer Farid Berki.
By going back over the rushes of his film L’Âcre parfum des immortelles (2019), he wanted to highlight the finesse and precision of the choreographic composition.
A portrait in the making, this 20-minute montage casts the filmmaker’s benevolent and admiring gaze on the choreographer at work during rehearsals for L’Oiseau de Feu, giving us a privileged insight into some intimate moments of the creative process.
A militant filmmaker, Jean-Pierre Thorn, more than thirty years after his discovery of hip-hop culture, continues to follow hip-hop dancers whom he considers, with affection, to be the daughters and sons of his “buddies”, workers and immigrant workers.
