Aurélia Schaefer studied at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse in Paris with Claire Motte and Jacqueline Rayet. She obtained her first prize in 1987 and joined the Ballet national de Nancy under the direction of Patrick Dupond and then Pierre Lacotte, performing roles from the company’s neoclassical, romantic and contemporary repertoire (G. Balanchine, J. Kylian, T. Malandain, J. Limon, P. Lacotte, R. Petit, J. Neumeier, A. Gades, P. Darde, etc.).

In 1994, she joined the Royal Ballet of Flanders (directed by R. Denvers) and then the Ballets de Monte-Carlo directed by Jean-Christophe Maillot, who created the title role of Cinderella for her. In addition to the choreographer’s works, she has enriched her repertoire with pieces by W. Forsythe, K. Armitage, J. Godani, P. Lightfoot and S. Léon, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Lucinda Childs…

Ballet mistress of the Ballet de l’Opéra national de Bordeaux, she remounts the great classics of the repertoire choreographed by Charles Jude.

A graduate of the C.A., she is the author of a research dissertation for the FDCA of the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse de Lyon on ‘lighting choreography’. Currently a teacher at the Conservatoire à rayonnement régional du Grand-Avignon, she also teaches dancers at the Ballet Preljocaj and the Opéra d’Avignon.
