Le Mystère des pas, la fascination du jeu
Extracts
For the exhibition “Dansons Maintenant! » (April – June 2011) on Antoine Tempé’ dance photographies, Fondation Zinsou who was the organizer, ordered benin choreographer Awoulath Alougbin to create a solo in resonance with the photographer’s images that were hung in outside on containers.
Note of intent of the piece:
“He is this companion whom I secretly called Dé. He came back among us for the time of a step game, the time of a dance game. A round trip between the fascination of having returned and the fear of going towards it, on the other side of the circle. He is present, rushes at me, pursues me. Worry, fear and then dread overwhelmed me, something drew me to him, despite everything. The mystery of the steps, the fascination of the game”.
Outdoor performance, Champ de Foire, Cotonou, Benin, April 23, 2011.
Filmed by Stéphane Agbessi-Loko.
The deposit of the video archives of “Dansons maintenant !”, belonging to Fondation Zinsou was made possible thanks to the Centre National de la Danse Research award in dance, granted in 2021 to Dr Anne Décoret-Ahiha for her research project “Consolidation of the African choreographic field: focus on Benin” and with the kind permission of the artists.
