Born in 1986 in Santa Maria da Feira (Portugal), Marco da Silva Ferreira holds a degree in physiotherapy from the Institut Piaget, Gaia. A professional performer since 2008, Marco da Silva Ferreira has danced for André Mesquita, Hofesh Shechter, Sylvia Rijmer, Tiago Guedes, Victor Hugo Pontes and Paulo Ribeiro, among others. He worked as artistic assistant to Victor Hugo Pontes in Fall and Se alguma vez precisares da minha vida, vem e toma-a in 2014, then as choreographic assistant in Mala Voadora’s play Hamlet.

As a choreographer, he created Nevoeiro 21, Replica … éplica … éplica (2013) and it was with Hu(r)mano – created that same year – that he received the 2014 Best Young Portuguese Artist award, propelling him onto the international stage. This was followed by Brother (2016), created at Teatro Municipal do Porto and presented at the Biennale de la danse de Lyon in 2018, then Bisonte created at Teatro Municipal do Porto in 2019 and performed in Lisbon, Brussels and various cities in France, then SIRI (2021) co-created with filmmaker Jorge Jácome.Between 2018 and 2019, Marco was associate artist at Teatro Municipal do Porto, then from 2019 to 2021 at the Centre chorégraphique national de Caen. In 2021, SIRI, a collaborative project with filmmaker Jorge Jácome, was presented at the FestivalDias da Dança in Porto. In 2022, he is invited by South African dance company Via Katlehong to create Via Injabulo with choreographer Amala Dianor. The same year, he created Fantasie Minor, produced by CCN de Caen and performed at the Biennale de la danse 2023, and C A R C A Ç A. In 2024, Marco created a Folia at the Opéra national de Lorraine(Nancy) with the CCN – Ballet de Lorraine.

Today, Marco da Silva Ferreira is one of nine artists associated with the Maison de la danse and the Lyon Biennale de la danse.
