History


It was in 1992 that James Carles creates APCA-Company that bears his name: an eclectic entity, free, intercultural. Gradually, the project has evolved:
– In 1998 with the Dance Center in order to transmit and perpetuate an artistic and cultural work begun, thus opening a new revolutionary path …
– In 1999 the Festival “Dance in Toulouse” which became in 2007 the dance festival and continent appeared; showcase this unique approach to valuation of popular dances
– In 2000 just turn Vocational Training, interdisciplinary and intercultural. Bridges are created between the different disciplines, cultures around, rub, bind to each other …

The project


“Dance has to be a mirror of the current pluralistic society”
In 23 years, the art project has found its strength through its content, coherence and quality of the partners involved. In order to give greater clarity to the project and a new impetus, to face the new challenges that the modern world offers us, James Carles redefined its artistic project by giving it a new identity. James Carles Centre becomes the center choreographic James Carles.
This new entity brings together in a coherent artistic line:
– The dance school
– The vocational training center
– The James Carles dance company & CO (eg James Carles)
– The International Dance Festival and black continents
– The pedagogical residence time with artists (masterclasses)

The international reputation and partners.


The center now has a strong position internationally. Indeed, its influence over the years moved through active partnerships with woven structures that include both artistically, educational and institutional.
These include among others: the Hofesh Companies, Batsheva, Alvin Ailey, ATDK & Parts Belgium, the University of Toulouse II, national choreographic centers (AFIG), the Association of Choreographic Development Centers (TDCA), the Institute National image (INA), the National Dance Centre (CND), the National Contemporary Dance Center of Angers or international tours Company James Carles Dance & CO. Finally, the different companies from the four corners of the world that we welcome each season during the International Dance Festival and black Continents.
Its leitmotiv is now structured around three major axes:
– Meeting, awareness and confrontation of different cultures dance for all ages and all sectors of dance
– The development of a choreographic fabric Midi-Pyrénées region, international scale.
– The establishment of high-level partnerships with an international dimension.
This network is a major asset for both follow a quality education within the school, but also increase its chances of integration in the dance community.
