C'est une colline

Year of production
1990

C’est une colline” (1990) is a short film by Arnold Pasquier. It was produced during a video-dance workshop proposed by Mark Tompkins as part of the 5th Manifestation internationale de vidéo et de télévision de Montbéliard. It was produced on Saturday June 16th, 1990 in a car park in Montbéliard (Doubs).

Arnold Pasquier considers it to be “a group dance filmed in one take in a car park in Montbéliard. Five dancers interpret a choreography that I wrote to an extract from Marguerite Duras’s text “L’été 80” recited live”

Remark by Arnold Pasquier in 2019 :

“In the 90s, I clarified and developed my interest in contemporary dance. I made many recordings of shows, workshops, and classes, and danced a little. My first “step” was to participate in a video dance workshop organised in Montbéliard by the choreographer Mark Tompkins. Each workshop participant produced a short film. I chose a garage as my decor, mainly for the depth of field of its central aisle and for the possibility offered by its boxes to be turned into small stages where the interpreters could dance. It was my first choreography, inspired by Angelin Preljocaj.  Marguerite Duras’s text was recited by the English friend of one of the interpreters (I’ve forgotten her name, not mentioned in the credits, as well as two of the dancers’ names).”
